Downloading historical quotes for FREE
hello,
can anyone suggest a quick and FREE way to download historical price data (mostly stocks) going back several years, even decades? Thanks | |

I believe you can download historical data for stocks from Yahoo Finance. Data quality might not be excellent for backtesting purposes as it's usually not cleaned out(bad prints, etc).

if you want FREE data, Yahoo is your best bet. You can download it as a spreadsheet or you can use most widely available programs to automate your downloads and import the data into your favorite backtesting software.

try Quotemonster http://xmlworks.com/quotemonster/ It lets you automatically download the data and use it in your software.

go with Yahoo. Get yourself one of those widely used "downloaders" or write one yourself if you have basic programming skills and you should be on your way to collecting all the data you need.

thanks for the heads up. I picked hquotes www.hquotes.com which lets you download data directly from Quote.com and Yahoo data servers. Pretty cool
