Home-traders: how do you cope with loneliness?

hello everyone,

I'm a newcomer to this forum. Are there any home-traders? I've been trading from home for almost a year and starting to feel a bit lonely. How do you cope with that? I used to work a regular office job and I'm now starting to "miss" the interaction side of it. hope to hear your experiences soon.

Hello TapeReader,

I can't help but participating to this thread! I myself have been a home trader for almost two years in the past, and understand how it feels like.

Trading from home gives you quite a few priviligies among which is the possibility of trading in your underwear, which is not to be taken lightly! just kidding....trading from home means freedom, not having to commute everyday, etc. basically you can do almost anything you want. This gives an additional layer of freedom, besides that already provided by trading.

However, trading from home may also bring about loneliness, and in rare cases, depression. lack of human interaction during the trading day is one of several possible causes.

We are HUMANS, before traders. As such, we need to interact with one another, at least every once in awhile a possible solution to this would be to speak on the phone with other traders as the trading day evolves, and exchange opinions and ideas. Or you can chat online.

What's more, a few traders could get together and maybe rent a small office and trade from there. I'm just brainstorming. I myself used to speak over the phone and chat a bit with other traders during dead zone hours. I was fine with that.

hope this helps

a former home trader too….after about a year of trading from home I felt like trying trading from an office..and never looked back! Trading from an office is a totally different world. Not only would that "cure" your loneliness, but give you a lot of room to improve your trading by being close to other traders, some of whom may be very successful ones.

thanks for your support guys. To tell you the truth, I'm considering trading from an office now. I figured in order to be able to decide what's better for me I would need to try trading from an office as well. So I think I'm gonna start looking for a trading office in my area and go from there. what do you think?

everything in life has its advantages and disadvantages. When you choose one thing instead of another, you must be ready to accept something called tradeoff.

Trading from home gives you complete flexibility over how you manage your trading time. If, for example, you are the kind of person who does not need to be in a clasroom in order to learn something, you will probably fare very well trading from home. On the other hand, trading from an office comes with a bonus: the possibility of meeting other traders - some of whom may be very successful ones - and learn from them. which one do you choose?

TRADEOFF, also known as the good old OPPORTUNITY COST from Microeconomics in college, is everywhere in life. I think that's actually what drives everything around….

That is the only downside to trading at home is the loneliness. I get to focus more but you need to get a routine for every work day. I have been trading at home 4 years now and the walls close in some days but i call some friends at my old office and meet up for lunch. Some days i go in maybe 1 day every 4 months and i don't miss it TBH.
