Tape reading and trading strategies

hi,

I frequently hear people talk about how they tape read a stock and how it is so useful and one of the most consistent ways to pull money out of the stock market (if mastered correctly). What is this tape reading exactly? And to which trading strategies can it be applied? is it something I can learn on my own, or do I need a mentor?

thanks in advance

hey how could I not post in this thread

Tape reading is an old technique of gauging market strength and weakness by watching the ticker - time anda sales - and looking for patterns in how blocks are traded. This is mostly done to spot major players and get an idea of where the stock is headed. Tape reading is a very intense trading style.

a classic read on the subject is Studies in Tape Reading by Rollo Tape, from the early 1900s….

as with any other strategy in trading, whether you need a mentor to learn a new technique depends on your personality. Some need a mentor to show them the way, other don't. it's up to you. But you can pretty much learn anything by yourself

I would also suggest Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefrevre as a good read on the subject.
