Question What are ticks?

I've got in my trading program 15min, 5min, 1min, and I also have 144 and 233 ticks.

Ticks are trades, these are helpful when you have a slow market and the actual time value charts can show false results.

They can be used but I don't know how successful they would be. The time value is all relative to what indicators you use to develop your trading plan. If you can work out an average trades per minute you can calculate the periods you would need to enter to reference your indicators on other charts. It's all relative and I'm not one to say I know everything by any means but with stocks that move that much a standard time value stock may be more then enough to get you started. You have to remember the majority of people use trend lines on 1 and 5 minute charts that day trade and when enough people belive something it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy...

I don't use the ticks for charting but I do notice they are fibonaci numbers, and that is a data set used by some traders. Perhaps in retracement systems the 144 and 233 tick periods are of some value.

If you are still interested in learning about tick trading, here is a guy who only tick trades. I myself found some of his knowledge to be quite useful. Let me know what you think, good or bad...
