What is your Trading Style?
Let me propose a sticky for this thread.
In our own little ways "we" tend to project our trading styles onto questions presented in posts. Without knowing someone's trading style, it is very likely the response is based on our own beliefs of how we personally trade. For example, if a trader spends 90% of his time on swing and position trading, certain indicator parameters are applied and risk/reward levels are used. Responding to these posts by a scalper / intra-day trader or "investor" will likely present little value or possibly confusion. Trader experience, knowledge, capital base, and understanding of indicators, fundamental analysis, momentum, news/macro economic conditions, are just as varied as are the trading instruments used. Sifting through the hundreds of posts, I have gathered a small , but limited "trader profile" of those posting. This does allow a better understanding of the context of the questions and will hopefully present some better answers or comments relevant to the OP. With that being said, I propose a sticky for this thread for some basic profile questions of the posters. DO NOT DISCLOSE ANYTHING YOU WISH TO REMAIN PRIVATE. I am a bit picky about what I let out on the net so in turn, privacy is respected * Profession (if trading prop or for a firm) * Experience (note to those new to trading...we all started somewhere. Your trading will evolve over time). The "education NEVER ends". * Instrument traded * Time periods traded * Strategies used and notes on trade setups....***do not disclose your "edge" on thinly traded instruments** * Goals of trading (long term ivestment, income, consistency, challenge etc.) * Resources used to gather data or "paint the picture" REMEMBER, this is an overview. Skills, strategies, and styles evolve. Mod - consider posting as a sticky as opposed to a general "about me thread". Kind of a "one stop shopping". I'm late to the forum, so if there is a thread like this already running, please point me to it and delete this thread. Thanks, Khan. ![]() | |

I'll give it a shot:
I trade full time 3yrs full time at home, 25+yrs in the market I trade Stocks and options, but have used futures as hedges recently My trades tend to be 1day to 2 weeks, with most 1-3 days I look for confirmed trends over the 1-6 month period and trade the fluctuations. I use candlestick charting, starting with the one year daily, Bollinger bands with a 20sma center and 2 standard deviation bands, 50,89, and 200 ema's, On Balance Volume, Slow Stochastics %D 5 interval, %K 5 interval, and absolute volume. My goals are growth of principal, and retirement in june of 2015. I use Thompson financial Data, IBD, WSJ, Barrons and others for general research and run various price/volume screens for picks. Hope this is of some value.

I'm trying to find my trading style, or styles, now. That is one of the reasons I come here.
